These are usually short circular walks, the photos are all in order of the route left to right (although they may not have been taken on the day of the walk). If you click on a photo you will be taken to a larger image on my flickr page, where you can also click on, map, on the left of the page to find the location.

Walk, Ormside

Walk, Wild Rose Campsite to Ormside (circular), 2 miles or 3.2 kilometer.

A shorter and much easier walk from the Wild Rose Campsite, although there is no pub on this one and it is all by road.

Leave the campsite by the main entrance and turn left onto Mill Lane, at the T junction turn right up the hill towards Ormside. Pass under the Settle to Carlisle railway and on into Ormside village.

Rail Bridge

In the village keep left through the village passed the large tree surrounded by stone blocks and on to the church.

If you follow the road round the side of the church and then through the gate, you can cross the field to the river Eden with views of the rail viaduct, or you can just have a look at the church. There is a bench to the left of the church with nice views, over the fields.

The walk continues back through the village the way we came, to the Y junction where we take a left, about half a mile along the road it starts to follow Helm Beck. There are stepping stones as the road passes Ormside Mill Residential Centre (an outdoor center for kids).

Stepping Stones

Then there is a footbridge over the beck, we had a picnic in the field next to the bridge by the beck, both are just sights on the walk you do not have to go over them.

Helm Beck

The walk continues following the road up the hill and back under the railway via another tunnel, where we arrive back at the campsite.
